Grouping doesn't rollup...

I am using MS Project 2000. I have grouped my tasks on the Gantt chart by field Text1. I have configured the grouping to "Show summary tasks". It does show the summary tasks. But the summary tasks no longer operate like summary tasks. That is, I cannot click on the "plus" sign to roll up all tasks under the summary tasks.

Any ideas?

The reason I am using groupings is because my Summary tasks are my phases (e.g. Analysis, Design, Development etc). My groupings represent streams (e.g. Project Control, Software Development, Change Management). My example of phases would fit under my Software Development stream. If you have another idea how I can represent this in Project, I'm all ears.

OK. I seem to be using MS Project functionality just because it's there. I simply created top level summary tasks to represent my streams, and then placed my phases under each stream summary task.

Therefore, not using grouping. Just out of interest what are people using the grouping function for?

Gives you an opportunity to get summary totals by various vectors. I like to think of it as a variation on pivot tables.
