Hi, I use Reportsmith to bring out information about Planning applications. The date we receive the application is being displayed and I want to group the applications by the month that it was received, therefore knowing the total number per month (and then probably display it in a crosstab)

Can this be done and how?

Thanks for any help,
Liz

If you use a Crosstab grouping by month is an option.

Take a look at:
Using Report Grouping it is also an option, just harder to find. If you click on the application received column and then the report grouping button. ReportSmith will group the data by date. You would then go to Tools | Report Grouping and select the group in the right hand part of the window. You can then change the grouping to monthy.

Hi Charles,

Thanks for your reply, after re-reading my post I don't think I explained completely in my original posting. The date is formatted dd/mm/yyyy, so I found out how to just display it as mm, using field format, but when I then group by that field it still takes it as being the dd/mm/yyyy format.

I was wondering if I can use a derived field to output a new field showing the month only, and group it by that (and display it in the crosstab).

Thanks for your help, its much appreciated.

A Date is a Date not mater how you have it formatted. Converting it is not nessary. Just tell the crosstab options how you want it grouped.
