Grouping & Drill Down info in List Format

My report uses a List (because I gather that is the only way you can display multiple lines for each record).

How can I group the records in the List, I've set the Grouping on the List properties but I only get one entry per group when I know there are 5 entries with Group type G, 4 with Group type K etc.

I also need to create a drill down so that the Group name shows and then the drill down shows the individual records in that group but is this even possible?

Thanks
Annie

Why not use a table - grouping is easier....

If you've set the group using the LIST properties and referenced the right field then there should be no issue

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

I want to use Table but the output for each record needs to show on more than one line and I wasn't aware this was possible with a Table. Please tell me it is )

I'm not sure I've set the group up on the list properly, I've set the expression and Doc Map Label (General Tab) to the field I want group on. I've not set anything else and I can't see how to show a group header on the List or hide the details in a drill down.

To be honest I'm not liking Lists much!

Output for each record needs to be on more than 1 line....can you describe further? If you create a grouping in a table, you can have multiple rows associated with each grouped value....do you mean that there could be repeating child elements or that you have long text that needs to be wrapped or......? can you give an example of how you would want the data to display? You can use the "Process TGML" link if you need to know how to show table formats here...

So the records will show as:

Notes: Saw Joe in school, discussed Optins after Year 11.

Name: Jane Smith Date Start: 24/08/2008 Date Entered: 24/08/2008
Organisation: Job Centre Plus
Notes: Helped Jane create her CV and looked at Retail vacancies

Telephone/Email Contact

Name: Jane Smith Date Start: 22/08/2008 Date Entered: 22/08/2008
Organisation:
Notes: Called Jane to remind her of our appt at Job Centre.

Name: Daniel Doors Date Start: 12/12/2008 Date Entered: 13/12/2008
Organisation:
Notes: Have emailed Joe's Tutor to let him know about the appointment I've arranged for him on Weds 12th November

The underlined would be the group titles and are specifed in the same database row as the rest of the info. The field is HistoryType_Ref which is what I'm specifying in the Group properties for the label as a whole. But when I run the report I only get one entry under each Group.

I also can't seem to input the Underlined Titles anywhere like I can in Table form.

I hope I've made sense.

Thanks
Annie

Ok - given that layout, you are definitely right to use the LIST control

Would suggest that you also need to group on NAME to keep the other elements of the records together - this might be why you are only seeing 1 record per group. Other than that, sounds like you are on the right track

It's worked )

I had to nest a list within a list and like you say group on name also.

Many Many Thanks Geoff, I'm really grateful.
