Hi,
I have a parent edition record with several child records for the parent edition record.
SO,I have a parent grouping and then child grouping.I have to display No Records for the child if a parent edition record doesn't have child records.

GH1 (Parent)
GH1a
GH1b
GH1c
GH1d
GH1e
GH1f
GH1g

GH2 (child)
GH2a
GH2b
GH2c

The thing is that there may or may not be child records for every parent edition record,in cases where there is no child record,no records should be displayed. Also, the records in the child with inactive status shouldn't be taken into account to display no records. How this condition is displayed as the child group is gone if the parent doesn't have children.is it possible to populate the condition no records in the GH1 section if the sub report is blank.
Or else, can the condition be shown based on the sub report being bblnk or not in the group header.Any other approaches.
Thanks

What records are you using? If 'parent' is Table A and 'child' is Table B, then a left-outer link will display Table A records with no Table B record matching, and you can test IsNull on a Table B field to identify such cases.

You also mention a subreport. What is the subreport doing? Subreports can pass back values using Shared Variables, but they can only be used in a lower section.

Yes,Parent is in Table A and child is in Table B.Where to use the ISNull on a Table B.The subreport gives the some info related o the child. When I counted the child records using a shared variable in the sub report and the same variable in the Main report to test, the main report was total was 0 whereas the child total was 1.I placed the shared variable in the report footer of the main report. Is there any reason.

I can't see why that would fail to work. Try posting your formulas.
