how does the group voice call work on an option switch?

straight from the NTP: (this is GROUP CALL, by the way. There is also VOICE CALL
Group Call allows a user of a M1 phone to place a call to up to 10 DNs simultaneously by activating a group call key. The called DNs must have been previously defined as members of a group.

Each customer can have up to 64 grups. each group has up to 20 members. Any DN can be assigned as a member of a group, and a DN can be a member of more than one group. On option 11C, six members per group are allowed.

I can't find voicecall but if my memory is correct you need to assign a unique DN to the terminating set and you can only put that DN on one telephone. Then the caller presses the Voice Call key and it rings to that one appearance.

customer wants the ability to page thru sets and i dont think this will work

this feature allows predefined digital sets to be called simultaneously at the press of a key..
analog set cannot initiate a group call but can be included in the group

I bet you that customer went some where and did see Norstar system and they did like that paging ability that Norstar has, and know they want that feature on opt.
 
part of it is they have it on a vodavi and know its a norstar feature and dont want overhead paging also quoting a nec and a alcatel

GROUP CALL DOESN'T USE THE SPEAKERS IT RINGS THE PHONES, THERE HAS BEEN TALK OF GROUP VOICE CALL IN THE PAST BUT I'VE HEARD OF NO OFFICIAL ANNOUCEMENT

Depending on your setup you can arrange Handsfree sets with auto answer key AAK to allow (single apperance DN) assigned in group call list to auto answer on each set performing all page. The ringing tone is removed from the originator of the group call when the first set answers on normal group calls, but with this auto ans arrangement, they just press their grp call key to use. I did this in a med cancer center and it did just what they wanted, but with auto anser active any single dn call to their set was auto answered. Norstar all page sets the stage for this!
