I'm having a problem with Crystal 8.5 that ships with MAS90 (a business swiss-army-knife, does sales orders, inventory, accounts r/p, etc). If I take one of the default reports that comes with the package and add a second group to sort the report by, the report generation goes from being created 100 records/sec to about 1 record in 15 minutes. I had to add another table to the report, since that's where the grouping criteria is coming from, but if I don't add the group and instead just that field printing as an item in the report, the speed is normal again. What's going on?

It might be trying to do the new group in the SQL and doing it wrong. To avoid having your new group go to the SQL statement, try putting your new field (all alone) in a new formula field, and then grouping on the formula instead of the field. That will keep it out of the SQL and CR will do the grouping locally. This worked for me when connecting to a proprietary flavor of SQL. Hello,
Another cause of this could easily be the linking that you are using between the new table that you have added to the report. This seems to possibly be the case as it is where the grouping criteria is coming from. It is quite possible that the report is now looping through records. You might want to try changing your links if that option is available to you. Another option to possible speed up your grouping is to go to file, options, select the database tab, and check the box "perform grouping on server"
Hope this helps!
