Please can you read the following scenarios. any further questions let me know - but I am desperate for help and short of time (new manager on the block!). Nobody know windows 2000, active directory and am expected to know everything after doing the courses. HA - but Panic.

I have created a test environment, one windows 2000 server, has Acive directory installed. Windows 2000 and 95 clients will be accessing. Before production and earlier phase will try and conver to all 2000 clients - to standardise. But as part of me teaching and learning io have come across the following 3 points. All my testing with group policy has been done with windows 2000 professional. My scripts are fine and run at a user level.

Here goes..hope you're paying attention whizz kids...
1. I am trying to run a script for all users in the default domain policy. I have given security access to the user for this policy and have checked that the script is placed in the NETLOGON share. The script does not run when user logs in.

2.The above did not work so I created another OU called TS and created a group policy in this for running a logon script. I gave the correct scurity for this group policy for user TS1. I copied the script again in the NETLOGON folder. The script did not run.

I am going through the Microsoft help for creating logon scripts at GPO level and does not work. What am I doing wrong?

3.The script runs fine when I go to the users profile and type in the name of the script. I have been testing on a windows 2000 pro PC for all of the above. The individual user script runs in both win 9x and windows 2000 which is what my environment is.

4. My production environment will have different OUs so i would like to have different login scripts for different OUs. So I can organise and map drives by user group/OU.

Please help. How do I get the login script to run at OU level??? So all users in the OU will run that script.

Any help advice....kind words..appreciated..before I start looking on jobserver or go totally bald.

Hi,
first , for every OU you can put a different gpo.
now, open the group policy security tab and see if the user has "apply group policy".
then open the gpo under "user configuration" "administrative templates" " system"
go to logon.

Erans is correct. Did you check the box in the security of the GPO to apply group policy to those individuals/groups? Keep in mind that Windows 95/98/NT does not run a login script that is applied by group policy. They only look at the Netlogon share and run the login script that is set for them under their profile in AD. You will also need to install the AD client on the 95/98/NT machines that will be accessing AD. You CAN NOT use AD to apply policy to 95/98/NT machines, you have to set policy with the poledit.exe command and copy it to their machine thru the login script.
