I recently took over for a sys admin that was let go and I am now going through all of his GP objects. When looking at a script that he did, I get this error when I try to edit the script in the Sysvol folder.

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

My user has every available admin permission that is and it matches up with the user permissions on the Sysvol folder. If I use the old sys admins name, it works fine. Is there something that I am missing? Thanks for the help.

Take "ownership" of the folder. Preferrably as a domain admin. To take ownership, right click the folder, permissions, advanced, "Owner" tab, and select domain admins. Don't forget to push it down to all subfolders.

Tried doing that and still a no go. I really don't know what could be doing this. I can copy a batch file into the Sysvol, but once it is in there I cannot edit it under my domain admin login, but can still do it under the old sys admin name.

Are you able to access the Group Policy Objects using something like GPMC?
