I'm a new IT employee to my current company. We are a Medical Testing Company. With most of our lab equipment, we have a legal, disclaimer banner that pops at boot-up to inform the user the machine is protected by FDA regulations, etc, etc.
This Logon Banner policy is part of a set of policies that are grouped together for each OU.
When using Group Policy Manager, if I expand the main container for all company machines, I find Pic-1 (which is the small window at top right of pic as I had to combine them), a list of all the policies that will run for any machines in this PC container and the order they will run. Pic-2 shows the entire container lableled: NLI Computers.
When I click on NLI Computers, I see pic-1. The OU in question is the 'Lab Equipment' object. For the machines in this container, we do not want the Logon banner policy run as it affects our Ghosting system poorly.
Therefore, I wish to discover how to remove the one Logon Banner step from the list of running policies for the 'Lab Equipment' object. As you see in Pic-2, the current policy is: Force Local Profile. If I remember correctly, this will run that policy first, then the default policy as seen in Pic-1 which is the list in the main Container/OU. Sorry, I don't remember the correct terminology for each unit, its been quite awhile since I have worked with Policies.
My question is this, what is the best way to remove the 'Logon Banner' policy from running on the machines located in the Lab Equipment OU but have all the rest continue to run?
I imagine I would need to unlink the current set, then create a new set leaving out the Logon Banner policy. However, I dont even know where to begin on doing that.
Please advise.
Thanks in Advance.
