Hi everyone,

I'm making some tweaks to the production department of my company and have run into some issues. I would like to be able to disable Windows Media Player's ability to rip CD's. We have run into issues with employees copying music to the hard drives of the work stations.
If I were able to prevent users from ripping music through the media player, they would no longer be able to cause this nusance thus ending managements complaints about it.
If I am unable to remove this feature, is there different GPO I could create to remove the ability for the CD drive to write anything to the hard drive (i.e. install, rip, etc) but still be able to read a CD (i.e. view files, listen to music)?

Thank you for all of your help,
Ryan

Hi,

I don't know if this will work but, this site identifys the burning service as IMAPICd buring com service.

(assuming you save w2k3) Go into gpo, computer configuration, windows settings, system services,IMAPICd buring com service.

If it works it will stop all buring for those users, not just copying music, but if they can't be trusted not to burn music and need to burn other stuff for there job then in my opinion its a mangement issue.
