Hi All,

Does anyone have any experience with setting Power Saving Settings using Group Policy? I've tried EX-GPO from energystar, but it doesn't work :( In fact, I just get the application crashing every time a normal user logs in!
As it stands, all the machines keep having their monitors go off after 20mins, which is a bit of a pain - they prefer to turn em on in the morning and off in the evening, rather than let the PC decide itself.

Any help/experience would be appreciated! We're using Windows 2003 DC's with XP Pro SP3 clients and a few Vista Business boxes also.
Cheers!

Just for informational purposes, Windows Server 2008 has brought forward some major advancements in managing power settings through Group Policy. Windows XP machines can take advantage of these settings through Group Policy Preferences. Going by your post though, it looks as if you only have Windows Server 2003 DC's in your domain. An alternative for managing the power settings on these machines through Group Policy is to script the settings using the powercfg.exe command. The power options you are trying to configure can be accomplished by using this command with the proper parameters. Create a script with the power settings configured to your liking and then apply it as a "Startup" or "Logon" script using Group Policy. Take a look at the following link for the available command-line options when using powercfg.exe.

Cheers, I'll have a crack at that, we already use KiX to script printers/shares :)

Ah, annoyingly when trying this on a user account, it states that you don't have permission... d!oh.
