I have a Win2000 Server and a bunch of Windows 98 clients. I have successfully created a CONFIG.POL file in the NETLOGON folder on the server using Policy Editor on a Win 98 machine. The tweaks make to Default User and Default Computer are saved to CONFIG.POL are read by the clients and the changes copied are to the local registry.
Now I want to take it one step further and restrict the desktop of specific users. Back I go into Policy Editor and I add a new user 'JSmith' for the domain user. The modified CONFIG.POL with Default User, Default Computer, and now JSmith is saved in the same location on the server. The system is supposed to read the Default entities first then overwrite the configuration with JSmith but I don't see any updates. I have also tried to add a new group in Policy Editor named 'Restricted Users' then created the same group on the server and made JSmith a member of it but still no-go.
What am I missing? Thanks.
