Hello there,

Wonder if someone could help me here with a valid question?
If you were to set up a sharepoint site for an HR department that dealt with confidential documents, is there anyway to create a user that could administer the site but who cannot view any documents, spreadsheets etc?
I have tried to create a custom group, but every time you select another permission it auto-ticks read or view access.

This is quite frustrating - I understand that it follows typical file structure laws (as in you need read access to move a file etc) - but it there any way?!

Thanks in advance for any tips etc.

Regards

Zzap

Hello,

I do not think you will be able to create such a user or sitegroup. As you have noticed a user will need a few rights such as read, view etc. And also to be able to administer a site you would need to grant a high level of permissions.

I would rather do so that I would train a person that should have access to most of the content on the site to be an Administrator. You can compare this as to a System Administrator of a server. That person will have full access to content stored on the server.

In one of our larger environments we have used that approach, and trained one (or two) person that is a responsible site administrator of SharePoint.

Regards,
Thomas
