I have a formula in a subreport which I have pulled through to my main report using the Whileprintingrecords method.
Is there any way that I can perform grouping on that formula in the main report?

It sounds like you misunderstand what a Group is. Think of it as being similar to a Group By clause within SQL.

Also it should seem apparent that where the subreport is within the main report might dictate what can be done, so post thorough technical information.

If you intend to group your data on a field within the subreport, then I suggest that the subreport should be th main report.
