i posted this questions once before but haven't gotten a response so I'm going to repost it more clearly.

My M3904 phone's CLS is set to GRLA (group listen allowed). If I'm on a call on my handset and I want someone else in the room to hear the call (without the person I'm talking to knowing) I simply press my round green speaker key. This works great, but I cannot figure out how to deactivate Group Listen for this call without first putting the caller on hold. Does anyone know if there's a way to shut off the speaker once I've activated Group Listen without first putting the call on hold? thanks for your input.

Momentarily press and release the hook-switch, or lift the handset if you have put it back in the cradle on the phone.
This reactivates the handset. :)

dear geirendre, that didn't work. When I pressed the switchhook i disco'd the caller. i did it just like you said but i lost the call. any other ideas? I actually dont think it's doable. thanks

Hmm...works on my phone... (So it's doable).
Do you have CLS= HFA on your set?

yes i do. You just press the switchhook? did you figure this out on your own or it is published in any nortel documentation that this is how it's done? I've never seen any explanation of how to deactivate this once you've turned it on for a call.

Rarely use this feature, just know by experience that it work that way.
BTW don't think the GRLA has anything to do with this problem,
this is "handsfree" not group-listen.
I can post a printout of my set tomorrow if you want.

geirendre,

You're not using the Group Listen feature on that phone, only the handsfree feature. With handsfree, pressing and releasing the hook switch will work. Apparently with Group Listen it does not.

coniglio,

I haven't been able to find anything about how to release the group listen feature, other than possibly going through the menu in the phone and turning it off? I don't have a lab switch I can test that on or anything though.

your set is programmed for group listen DENIED. GRLD. I am not talking about the handsfree feature. I am talking about group listening allowed. This allows me to press my speaker key while talking to the party ON THE HANDSET and anyone else in my office can hear our conversation through the speaker (which is muted so the caller doesn't know their conversation is being heard). However, if i no longer want the person in my office to hear my conversation i can't figure out how to deactivate Group Listen. thanks.

sorry guys, i got Archibald's post after i replied. i don't think it is possible to turn it off. thanks for all your help.

Same exact question here. It's frustrating. When you find out the answer let me know. Thanks.

please ignore the last post from Coniglio. That was actually my boss who was sitting at my desk and decided to play around with my computer. I don't want you to think I'm a total flake.

When you are in group listen mode, press the round speaker button again. This takes you to another mode that sounds like speaker only, no handset. Then press the round speaker button again and that takes you back to handset only mode.

rfontanez, worked like a charm. Thank you! Now why can't Nortel simply print that in the user guide? Thanks for your help.
