Group footer problems

I have a report with a Group header (NOT report / page header), a detail part (a continuous list of records), and a Group footer. Nothing else is in the report.
When there are not many records in the detail part, the header, detail and footer can fit in 1 page. But when there are more records, the footer is “pushed” to page 2. Sometimes it comes into a situation that all the records are able to fit in the first page and the footer goes to the second page alone. How can I make it like: if footer has to go to page 2 -> then at least 1 record is forced to go with it to page 2, even when there is enough space in page 1 to contain that record? I know this can be done in the settings but I tried tons of setting combinations and still couldn't make it!

Have you selected the group on and keep together properties on both the group footer properties and the in the sorting and grouping properties box?

you may wish to keep together in the grouping& Sort box but have no selected for keep together on the actual footer property.

The horrible thing is, besides the "keep together" property, there are also properties like "force new page", "new row or col", "repeat section"... Each of these properties will do some effects to the layout of the report, and even worse, these properties are in all of them (header, details, footer)... thus there can be thousands of combinations... Wish someone would kindly tell me what seting combination would do the following: (a Christmas wish!)

1. If everything can fit in 1 page, then that's fine.
2. If there are 2 pages, then page 1 have the header and some records, page 2 have the HEADER, AT LEAST 1 RECORD and the footer.
3. If there are more then 2 pages, say 3 pages, then page 1 have the header and some records; page 2 must have the header and some records; and page 3 must have the header, AT LEAST 1 record and the footer.

xinyin , I saw a thread with someone asking suppressing the page if no actual record was to be printed (i.e. no header just to satisfy the footer being displayed ona new page) Sorry can't find right now.

Thank you Bhoran for telling me about this. I will try to find that thread out. Do you remember the time you saw it?

The best thing I can recommend (if it's not being done already), is to set the Repeat Section property of the group header to Yes. That way, the header will print on all subsequent pages to help identify it...

Hoc nomen meum verum non est.

I think it was last week but I was doing a keyword search so it may be an older post.
