I have a report that I am working on that insists on sorting a date field that I am grouping by like its a string. I have confirmed over and over that it is in fact a date field and that it has no display formulas being used that might output as a string. I have tried taking the group out and adding it in. No joy. I know this is stupid. Has anyone ever seen this?

i dont understand " sorting a date field that I am grouping by like its a string"..
display formulas wont effect sorting.
You mentioned grouping .. What made you think that would have an effect?

Crystal version?

I group by the date field, sort by largest to smallest date. The report sorts the date field like a string instead of a date so the dates with the 1pm times are listed then 2pm,pm3,4pm,5pm, all the way to 8 am with 12pm first on the list. If you group data by a date normally the dates are listed smallest to largest. This report is busted, not sure why just wondering if others have seen anything like this before.

It is listing the dates in the report in alpha numeric order instead of by date. the command query that is the source of the report has no such problems.

Figured it out, sorted the sql query behind the report and all was well. not sure why the report did not sort...

probably more efficient anyway .. I was trying to replicate on this end .. glad you got it
