I have to ground an IP Office 500V2 for a customer. There isn't really a great place to run the wire from the control unit to in their closet. I was thinking about getting a 3 prong replacement plug end and attaching the wire to the ground terminal on that, then just plugging it in to use the ground on the circuit. I am not an electrician so I don't know if this is an acceptable practice. Has anyone ever done this or have a better idea for me to try? Thanks.

I think you'll be fine using a battery UPS.

Don't be afraid to draw the line, they provide the ground/earth point and you connect to it, that's it :)
