Ground Start trunk issues 1

We recently installed four new ground start CO trunks at a customer site, Legend R7.0. The site uses a T1 for LD calls and CO's for local calls. The problem is when the newly installed trunks come up for their turn in the pool to be used, the users get dead air. Tried moving them to different trunk ports, get the same results. Checked to make sure that the ports were set as ground start, and you can make calls over the trunks when you disconnect them form the switch. The trunks are grounded properly as well, so I'm stumped to this point. Any anything else to check/look for? Thanks In Advance.

Can you make a call using a butt set? Try switching the polarity on the GS trunks. You say they aren't there when they come up for their turn in the pool, ae they in their own separate pool?

Yes, disconnected them and made a call to my cell phone. No, they're not in their own pool, they're in pool 70 with the rest.

Polarity must be reversed going into legend. Tip side to ring side, ring side to tip going into legend. It was designed that way, go figure, Huh.

GROUND-START trunks or lines ARE polarity sensitive and must be wired correctly for them to work. It should be TIP to TIP and RING to RING. I just checked the Legend installation practices and nowhere does it mention or show any reversed T & R exceptions for CO/PBX line connections!

Take note: ken1713.

Hope this helps!

I've just dialed back into the system, and I checked the number of trunks they have. They're right the 80 limit. Any problems here you think?

Only if you go past 80 trunk ports.

You may have more than 80 physical ports, but everything past 80 will not work.

80 is the limit, 80 is OK. Did you add these lines at the end of the system, and if so, did you "board renumber" after adding the card?

Pepperz@charter.net

If you assign the pool to a test phone, can you get dial tone when you press the button?

Pepperz@charter.net

Didn't try that, and I'm assuming you mean putting them in their own pool, and putting a pool button on a test phone. Something else that was strange, two of the four worked when we had them in the trunk ports in slot 8, which is a 408 GS/LS-MLX, and when we moved them to another 408 NONE of them worked. This is a three carrier system with all slots filled.

Reverse the polarity as stated before, make sure ports are programed ground start, go off hook on a sa button and dial*03 craftr4 and the trunk number and you should get dial tone on that line.

If you haven't already, re-confirm that the trunks aren't busied out in the legend.

All input is greatly appreciated and will be used. I'll probably not get backout to the site until tomorrow as it's six hour drive. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks again.

Level one trouble shooting is to verify you have dial tone on the cable going into the system. Unplug the rj11 plug on the GS port and plug it into your "Modapt" tester and connect your buttset to pins 4 and 5., go off hook and short out one side to earth ground. If no dial tone then yor problem is that cable ( you stated that there is dial tone on the block). If you do have dial tone then reverse its polarity. And try what Ken1713 stated. GS lines and DID's need to be reversed on Legends.

Actually, they don't need to be reversed, polarity-wise. The need to be reversed depending on how you are wiring to the modular jack on the card. If you extend from the telco's block to a modular jack, and use a standard phone line cord, which does a "rollover" in polarity to patch from the modular jack to the card, you're OK. If you plug a Card into the card, and cut off the other end to punch on the telco block directly, you need to reverse polarity.

Then use the line test code (*04-PW-Line port number) to make sure that you can sieze each trunk, and try reversing it if you can't.

Isn't *04 touch tone receiver for analog phones?

Oops, you're right! Funble fingers here. *03-password-line port number to test trunks.
