Gritty Arcserve 6.61 Client Agent Error

Hi there, I really hope someone has the answer to this particularly gritty problem.

I back up probably 45 servers a night on 5 seperate HP DLT's with 20/40GB tapes. All Arcserve Managers are running ver. 6.61 SP2a Advanced Edition. In addition all Arcserve Managers are NT SP6a boxes.

All client servers have the NT client agent loaded (latest patches applied) and backup works fine for all of them except for three particular servers where I receive the following error:

E8522 "Failed to receive data from client agent" (EC=10060)

Looking at the client agent on these 3 servers shows that the backup started but failed at some random point during the process. Each of the three problem servers are backed up by seperate Arcserve Managers and therefore don't require a tape change.

I'm really stumped on this one and I hope one of you Arcserve specialists may have some good ideas how to troubleshoot this one.

I have two suggestions. Do you have another NIC in the server that you can use? I am assuming that the servers are NT 4.0 server. If so, try backing up without the agent and see what happens. Did you try reinstalling the agent? Most time when you receive the message 'failed to receive data from the client agent' it normally means that the communication was lost between the server with the Arcserve manager loaded and the server with the client agent loaded. It could also be issue with the network or something as simple as stopping and restarting the client agent services. You have several things I listed above that you can try starting with simply stopping and starting agent services. Let us know if you make any progress.
