Is the freebie version of Grisoft any good? Is it self updating or must you update manually? Also, what are the main differences/advantages in using the full version over the free one.

Thanks

I've got it at home and it keeps me virus free (or at least catches them) You can set automatic updates and automatic scans which is useful. The free version had no technical support though.

Howdy,

I have had nothing but success w/ Grisoft. I have only had two minor infections since I got the software and dumped Norton, and I have had no problems solving the problems. It seems to work especially well whem coupled with a few other freeware apps (ZoneAlarm, SpyWare Guard, etc.) that notify you of "wierd" happenings on the machine.

Bottom line:
You can't (really) go wrong. The only thing it has cost me is a little bandwidth when I decided to download it... :)

Good luck,
onrdbandit

I use it, my dad, sister and aunt/uncle use it on their machines (on my recommendation).
Only problem I've had is that a scan will only clear the first virus it finds, so you need to rescan and keep rescanning until it finds nothing, plus occasional update file download problems.

I use the freeware version of Grisoft AVG it at home on two computers and I'm very happy with it. It can be set to auto dupdate. I've used it for several years without an infection.

We have been using it exclusively on our shop network since the first beta was released. We had a backup system during testing for the first few months.

System resource hogging, 0
Virus infections, 0
Known issues or conflicts with other programs, nothing I have run into yet, even on older computers with little ram and hard disk space.
Ease of use is the very best I have seen.
If you update continually, which we do, there are no problems at all.

If I had to complain about anything, I think it would be that the defaults on install don't set the updates closely enough, and heuristics is not enabled.

With most other programs I would never have dared enable that for routine scanning because the system would have run so slowly. Not an issue either.

I recommend it to all my home users, and the only ones with any problems are virus infections from not updating, or not changing the defaults in the program after installation. Most have been virus free for the first time ever...

I am very impressed with them, and no they don't pay me and I don't work for them in any way....in case you were wondering.[lol]

Very good program.

We use the Full Network version across 80 machines.

Only one small issue with a setyup but everything is working perfectly now.

Grenage,
Thank you for your post!
Could you please share with us the issue during setup?
It will be handy for future reference.

Thanks,

K

No problem, the matter was discussed a while ago in this thread.

I now have it working seamlessly using the AVG TCP server, with the exception of 1 windows 2000 workstation which will not install updates. I believe this is a combined windows/AVG problem however so it should be working after it has been re-imaged.

AVG IS the best virus checker
Even though its free it checks and prevents attack of virus
very efficiently and unlike NORTON it does not reduce
working speed of machine

Actually we have decided to plan to buy a copy from them, but unfortunately their vendor in India is not responding
to any of our mails

jadoogar, I don't believe it should matter too much which vendor you buy from. It can all be done over the internet.
