You probably should ask this in the forum for your front end language, but I would recommend using a datatable rather than binding directly to the database.

Definitely ObjectDataSource. This forces you to adhere to Patterns and Practices guidance, and it's a great tool anyway.
That is, if you have .NET 2.0 ;-)
