Deos anyone know how to apply a pantone color to a greyscale image in illustrator 9. Otherwise does anyone know why I cant get a monotone eps to display its PMS color value once imported into illustrator ?

thanks

convert the mode to bitmap and save as a .tif. You will then be able to assign spot colors in AI. The white area will be translated as transparent so you can see the art underneith. BEHOLD! As Steve Jobs introduces us the latest in desk-lamp technology!

Thanks ... I would also like to know if an actual grayscale can be given a plntone value in Illustrator - is this possible ?

sure, after its greyscale, select the Duotone mode. In the dialoge box choose monotone and give the color a name. Here's the crucial part. Make a spot color in AI that has the ExAct same name as your monotone channel.
The other meathod which is prefered by spot process simulators is changing to a multi channel mode. double click on the channel and make it a spot channel. Save the image as photoshops DCS 2 .eps format. Now when you place your image in AI the spot colors get added to your pallette immediatly. You cant edit or delete these colors so just use em to color your AI elements. You can have as many spot channels as you want so go nuts. BEHOLD!
