Grey fields when opening Excel 97

Has anyone seen this one before and more importantly managed to resolve it? Users in the dept that I support have been experiencing an error when opening Excel in that the whole sheet appears blank with rows that are grey and about three screens wide. This can normally be resolved by restarting the PC but can return at another time. This has coincided in each dept with the users being ugraded to Outlook 2000/IE5.5 - as soon as this upgrade takes place the users start to report the error. The users in question are running NT(if that helps). Amongs other things I've tried upping the memory on some of these PCs but this hasn't helped.We will be rolling out Office 2k soon but I really need to sort this one in the meantime. Any ideas?
