I am working on a photos in which I inadvertantly created to vertical green lines although I don't recall exactly how I did it. However, when I click on View and unclick 'Extras', they go away. What are they, and how do I get rid of them permanently? This is Photoshop CS.

These are guides, when using the ruler(ctrl+r), you can drag guides out from the horizontal ruler to make a horizontal guide,(ditto for the vertical). Guides are used when you want a visual referance to placing objects in layers etc. Snap to guides will,(when the oject is near to it) 'snap' the layer so it will touch the guide line.

Moe: It could have been a real ugly situation, but luckily I managed to shoot him in the spine.
