Microsoft killing VFP is the greatest crime in (non-illegal) software.

VFP could've been extended to incorporate networking features and been the absolute de facto standard and system to go to for all business apps.

I will never forgive Microsoft for what they did there.

Personally it was the use of a redundant SELECT myTABLE and SET ORDER TO in a loop I wrote...

Keep [Smile]ing

There are 10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

I'm trying to cut down on the use of shrieks (exclamation marks), I'm told they are !good for you.

Rick,

I'm sure everyone here will agree with you one hundred percent.

But we have discussed this a zillion time, in this forum and many other places. We have complained, condemned and criticised. We have pulled our collective hair. We have flogged the dead horse.

So, unless anyone has something new to say on this subject, how about we give it a rest and just move on?

Mike

I have something new to say:

Microsoft killing VFP is NOT the greatest crime in (non-illegal) software. Microsoft is a monopoly santioned by the US government and no one can or will do anything about it. Why | How is this?

All software (especially operating systems) procurement by the federal goverment goes through an intense process. Microsoft has made deals with the government to provide custom versions of Windows (for different dapartments) and hundreds of Microsoft consultats that actually work for the federal government. As such, our government has huge investments and actually owns parts of customized Windows versions. The same is true of big companies in the private sector. When I worked for BofA, it was well know that the bank had a custom version of Windows and a team of Microsoft consultants on staff.

This was a brilliant move on Microsoft's part. Ever wonder how Microsoft has been left out of congessional investigations (unlike Google, FaceBook, et al)? Microsoft is GOLD and will never be invesigated for anything - ever.

Our company is moving toward online solutions. We've been going through training on what they entail.

I look at what VFP had, what I envisioned for Visual FreePro's networking interface (Visual FreePro is a server and a client, so you can connect from instance to instance and get forms, reports, data, everything) allowing our traditional design model and use over a network. No web browser code. No complex APIs to go from front end to back end. Just programming.

I sat there looking at these examples of programming and was just furious at what Microsoft has done to this world. They are evil. Bill Gates is evil. This whole monopoly system they've established for themselves is evil.

It needs to be ended.
