We have just been asked if we can extract data from an older version of Great Plains. The end users thought that they were on version 6, but I was able to ascertain that they are actually using v7.50g53 which should be service pack 6.

In any case, does anyone out there know what database this version of GP might be using? I believe that this was about the time that users needed to upgrade to SQL Server from Pervasive, but I can't remember just when or what version that was.

Thanks to anyone who might still have some of this old information around. Now down to the storage room to see if we still have some old versions of Pervasive around, just in case.

If I recall correctly, 7.5 was the last version that was supported on databases other than MSSQL. What files do you have? Have you confirmed that they were not using MSSQL? It's been a very long time since I worked with anything other than MSSQL and GP...but I think you may be able to tell what DB was being used by looking at the Dex.ini file if you still have GP installed anywhere.

Thanks for the reply Victoria.

Once we were finally able to look at the installation, it turned out that they had moved to SQL Server 2000 at some time in the past. They didn't know what version of Dynamics they were on let alone what database was in use in the system back-end.

This should make our lives easier as to getting at the data. Now we only have to worry about table/field changes that occurred since v7.5 and work backward to insure that we are getting good data out.
