I have taken over an IT department and need to add a user to dynamics. I have a login for dynamics but it asks for a second password when I go to setup >system to add a user. The previous IT Manager tells me it's the default passsword but doesn't remember what it is. Anyone know what the default password is?

Thanks

Can I suggest that you change it now?

If you are interested in stronger password security, have a look at Omni Password on

Already changed. You should have seen this organization I work for. When I came in, every user had the same password for everything and were not allowed to change them per the previous IT Diretor.

Stupid GP trick.

create a new report in report writer

insert the table with system password in it

insert the field

go back into GP

add the custom report

run the report....

doh! not encrypted!

had to do this a couple of times for forgetful customers.

jazgeek, What version are you using. I tried this in 7.5 SP2 and it doesn't work.

yes it still works 7.5 sp2

go to report writer

create a new report

series is system

select system password master as your primary table

go to layout and insert the two fields into the body of your report

go back into dynamics

go to reports>custom and select series sytem
your report should be there print it and it shows your system password in clear text

Which is why you should apply security to the System Password Master table.

Which is why Great Plains should get their act together and not allow retrieval of passwords in plain text.

What a joke: "Which is why you should apply security to the System Password Master table." Administrators should not have to take an extra step to prevent this. It should be part of default security.

I have raised your comment in Fargo, maybe it can be fixed for v8.

By the way I agree with you, but right now you should deny access to that table.
