We run 7.5 MSDE. My boss wants me to restore a backup to a Test company. I created the test company. Where should I look for the data for both the existing (so that I can identify it on the backup tape) and the Test company (so that I know where to restore it to.

Thanks you,

Scott P. Dann

Try on your server the drive that you installed Great Plains on>F$\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\BACKUP. Now this is for GP 7.5 for sql2000. It might help I am not sure.

It's easiest (for me) to use the SQL backup file (.bak) from the live company and restore to the test company. You have to select from device and browse to the live company backup. Then on the options tab, choose force restore and change the file names under the Move To column.

Maybe this was stuff you already knew. If so, sorry! :)

You could make a fresh backup of your live company to disk rather than tape, so that you know where it is and then restore that copy into your test company.

Thanks!
