I've got an HP P4 2.8 with 512mb, i want to upgrade from my 64mb shared on board graphics, i don't really need fx for games, just s-video output and input.
Does memory matter much as i only run 1280x1024 tops?
I'm not really bothered about dvi, because i love CRT's.
I'm baffled by the choice avaliable and know nothing about performance or pricing of these beasts. Would love to snap up a budget bargain say under £60? Please assist.

the video memory on a graphics card is dedicated to the video card.

since you say you only need the thing to play video, then the memory doesn't matter that much, since videos mostly just put processing strain on your gfx.

however I wouldn't get anything less than 64mb...

Has anyone had experience with these cards and is there an issue with using NTSC and PAL inputs on s-video. What sort of chipset do i go for?

Anything currently available will be fine if you're not interested in 3D performance. 64MB is more than enough for the resolutions you want.

If you can still get it the MSI GeForce4 MX440 VTD something-or-other won a Tom's Hardware Editor's choice award a year or so back. I had one for a while and it was fine - it has s-video and composite in and out, 64MB of RAM and a huge software bundle.

Not all the MX440-based cards from MSI have video in and out though, so double-check before you order anything.
