Graphical Print Preview

I am tech support and not a graphic user so a little bit lost trying to figure out some problems/feature of the adobe creative suite.

Is it possible to get a graphical print preview from Indesign - when you go to printing the layout in the bottom left hand corner which has just a P in it. If not possible to get it from there is there another way to get a full print preview.

Adobe CS V1 (hopefully upgrading to 2 soon)

No. That's just showing you which way the page is facing. eg to click on spreads you will see two "P's".

If you make a PDF then in Acrobat go to file print, you will see the picture then.

You might try going to View menu/Overprint Preview. If you want to see an entire multipage document, go to View menu/Entire Pasteboard. With entire pasteboard showing you can scroll through pages and/or reduce the size (Command - on mac) to see more pages.

thanks for the fast responses.

they are printing straight from indesign and they were expecting something like the preview you get in illustrator.from what you are saying it doesn't do it, is this the same in CS2 as well?

Does the overprint menu work the sameway on PC?

Overprint Preview works on all versions and gives you an accurate preview.

Please understand that Illustrator only supports one page so a preview is easy. Also AI allows for Crop areas etc.

ID supports many pages, so overprint preview, allows you to scroll through the pages or view quite a few at opne time via the entire pasteboard option. It would not be very good if the preview of page 1 looked good, but page 17 looked lousy and you didn't see it becuase print preview only showed the first page.

I beleieve the zoom out in Windows is Ctrl- and zoom in is Ctrl +. If you hold the Ctrl key you can also use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out.
