I reply to people in the OO Analysis and Design forum, which cries out for simple diagrams. Is there anyway of adding simple .pngs and .jpegs to these messages.

Yes, but you have to post them to some other server and then link to them through TGML (click the 'Process TGML' link in the frame of the message-writing area in the 'Your Reply' section of this page for more info.

Here's a quote from there:
