My guess would be that the console is set to start xdm (graphical) instead of as text console and you do not have a graphics console. If you could temporarily set you LANG to english then rerun the errpt I could be sure. (it's been 15 years since I last had a class in german and I was never very good even then).

If you don't have a graphic console then you can change the setup through smit under "System Environment"
