I imported a bitmap file into a Word 2000 document. It added about 2 Mb to the file size. So, I replaced the graphic with a .gif version, which is only a few Kbs in size. But when I resaved the file, it retained the bloated size from the first graphic. Resaving the file with a new name didn't help. Anyone have any ideas about (a) why this is happening and (b) how to get the file size down?

Thanks.

Haven't run into this with Word, but did a while back with a Pagemaker file and never could figure out how to fix it. I eventually just gave up, created a blank file, did a select all/copy in the old file, then pasted everything in the new file. That seemed to do the trick in Pagemaker and it may work in Word.

Do an -edit -Cut on the object
Then -edit -paste special -Choose picture -OK

Or Try the same as above but paste to a new document
