How do I grant sharepoint access to computers or devices that are on the same local area network but are not on the domain. The problem is I have a scanner/copier. I need to grant it access to be able to access the virtual directory and since it is not on the domain I cannot get it to work or any computer not on the domain for that matter. Is there a way to grant access to certain IP's to access the site?

The scanner/copier should have some option in it to authenticate, and it would authenticate using Basic Authentication. Once you've figured that out, you need to create an account for it in your AD and give that account the sort of access to SharePoint that you want it to have, and configure your virtual server in IIS to allow Basic Authentication.

If your scanner/copier can't authenticate at all, then it's going to be a requirement that you allow anonymous access to your Sharepoint, configured within sharepoint, and not just in the virtual server.

it does have authentication. in fact it is connected to the active directory for authentication. so does that mean it is using basic authentication already or does it use the ntlm or whatever its called. it is a konica minolta bizhub c252. it has in the scanning options a place for a host name or ip address. i tried everything. the only thing that works when i tried testing it from a computer that is not on the comain is companyweb.reynoldspark.local and that seems to work because it asks for a username and password. so for the hostname i put companyweb.reynoldspark.local the next option on the scanner is for the path so i type in the path to the folder which is "pdf" and then it asks for a user name and password and i put mine in and i can't get it to work. in the end after it puts it all together the address looks like \\companyweb.reynoldspark.local\pdf and i can access that same address on the computer off the domain but not the scanner. but you think maybe if i check basic authentication it will work? i can get it to work perfectly fine going to a users shared folder on the server but we don't use those anyway. thanks for your help.
