I'm currently testing several SIP analog terminal adapters. The Grandstream HT286 looks very promising, tho I've bumped into a weird faxing problem. The HT286 is set for pass-thru Fax.

The Fax machine where the HT286 is attached (Xerox Workcenter 575) can receive incoming faxes perfectly, however it is so far unable to send (initiate) a fax. In both cases the machine on the other end is an Imagistics 2500.

We have a hunch the Xerox may be attempting to negotiate for a 14,400 bps connection (but can't prove it).

Ideas?
Thanks

I recently installed several of these on a 3300 mxe. We found that the fax machine needs to be set as slow as possible.. 9600 if you can get it. It was challenging to figure out how to turn down the speed on the fax machines but eventually we got the HT286 to work with HP's and Brother faxes--i don't recall if there was a Xerox in there. we haven't had any problems since install.

Thanks. Yes, our (Cisco) network engineer also told us 9600 was the max. So the issue is finding out how to tame the Xerox.

I'll have to admit, so far the little Grandstream 286 looks like it's going to be best bang for our ATA buck.

I see there is (or perhaps was) a 2-port model HT-386 but not widely available. Is there an issue I need to know about?

We use HT-502
I have limited speed on FXO gateway on other side of T.38 connection.

I've just got a "286" to connect to a 3300 for testing, does anyone have a config they can post as i'm having trouble.

X-lite softphone will connect to the 3300 without problem, so it appears to be the 286 config.

Thanks

The HT 286 works fine. It is really simple to set up

We used Mitel's config example for the Linksys SPA2102 device (for the 3300 side). Note that the Class of service stuff listed has errors. We ended up using one of our class of service that we had for a standard IP phone. That worked fine.

Configuring the HT286 - use the web GUI built-in. Put your laptop on the 192.168.1.x subnet (use something like 192.168.1.9) and connect to the HT286 then open your browser and surf to
You will use most of the default settings. Basic settings: Don't hard-code the IP address on the HT286 - it will get its address from the 3300 once you put it back on the network, so choose Dynamic. Only other thing to set is the time zone. Advanced settings: The SIP server is the address of your 3300. Same for the outbound proxy. The SIP userID we used the ext# of the phone we were planning to use on it. AuthenticateID we used the same as the ext #

UserID = the phone number YES
Ports left at default (5060, 5004)
Everything else = default
Advanced settings 2 all default
That's it

Make sure the Ethernet connection you use is on the voice Vlan. In other words, if you can make a regular Mitel IP phone work on the ethernet connection, then the Grandstream should work there too.
