I sthere an easy way (easy for a lay person) to obtain one summary total for a set of numeric values for all records in one field? In otherwords, as I update data or add records, I would like to be able to obtain a summary total. California Regional Water Quality Control Board

Fresno, California

Yes, there is. Open a new query and add your table to the query. In the first column enter
Sum(YourFieldName)

Access will change that to:

Expr1: Sum(YourFieldName)

In the result, the field will be named Expr1. If you want it to be Sum, go back into design view and change the Expr1 to Sum.

Is that what you were looking for?
