Is it possible to show grand totals on only some of the columns instead of all of them? I have some date columns where and percentage columns where Microstrategy is actually computing a total or showing 0.

Thanks -- We are still in our trial phase with this tool so I am VERY new.

yes. you have 2 options.

- for numeric columns or calculations (also known as simple metrics), when you edit the metric there is a "subtotal" tab that you can edit. Here you just specify that the metric has no applicable subtotal.

- for the percentage columns (also known as compound metrics in MSTR), you can do the same as above and hide the subtotal. Or you can turn on "Smart totaling" with a checkbox in the same tab. This allows the percentage to be calculated from the component subtotals instead of adding up the percentages.

good luck with your eval. I hope you can "break" the system with the most complicated report you need to build.

In addition to the "smart totalling" feature to handle "special" cases (%, % to total,....) you might have to use the evaluation order (Data - Report Data Options - Evaluation Order) to make sure the total/metrics/custom groups/consolidation are calculated in the right order.

To answer your question a little bit more directly, you can create a "custom subtotal" in your report that will not display the total for all the columns (click on "advanced/modify" when viewing the subtotal window).

2 cents,
Flb.
