Grafics acceleration

When I display games in a higher resolution IE: 1024X7?? the games become choppy and slow, compromising for speed, I loose grafics... I have 8 megs on a trident grafics card. Can I solve the problem by upgrading the amount of memory on my card. I have a 700mhz processor and 124mg ram which should be enough to run any game. but they are all slow and choppy and have weak grafics. What can I do?

I'd lose the 8mb card somewhere down a deep dark hole...replace it with a shiny new 32mb nvidia-chipped TNT2 ..problem solved..
