Hey...

I was gazing at one of my favorite desktop backgrounds, which is (believe it or not)...a solid brick wall (it reminds me that...when things get real bad at work...I can always bang my head up against the CRT screen.)

Anyway...I had an idea. I want to create a spray painted graffiti effect on the wall...where the language painted onto the surface is unstructured in form...& also has paint drips that run down the wall a bit, for realism.

Is this something that could be created in raster form in Photoshop...utilizing a custom font or effect? Or would it be better suited to vector drawing in Illustrator, using a paintbrush effect? (or via a plug-in in either?)

Thanks,

Sonic Max

I would find a good graphitti image or draw one with the brush or pen etc then to make it look like it's actually on the wall change the blending mode to overlay. As for paint drips do a google search for that effect.

Hope this helps!

i have done something like this i started of taking photos of the graffiti actually on some white board, it dosent have to be the color of the finished tag i then upload the image to the pc and printed it out on ohd paper i cut out the image using an outline off my drawing tablet and then drew around the tag this produced an excellent layer mask to use the spray feature. or you can use the image itself but you will loose some of the edge effects created when using a fine point tablet pen. also if you put the canvas/white board at the angle of the wall then diliberately pause at the areas you would like the runs to occur its even better because you can manipulate the image outline to actually correspond with the brick courses and the cement layers allowing for shadows and tonal differences to be adjusted and put in place in ready for the final layer merge i hope this gives you some inspiration if anything bye know ts

SPYDERIX & tripleshine,

You guys are way over my head on this...but thanks.

I was hoping for maybe a font type (on the raster side) or maybe a brush plug-in (on the vector side.)

I don't know if I'm advanced enough yet to do blending modes or construct my own templates.

I'll try, tho.

Thanks again,

Sonic Max

if its just fonts or there are hundreds of web pages that will let you download true type fonts for free just type what your after i think you will get a plesent suprise ive just located ten free ones but im not sure if i can put the link in this as i dont want to peeve anyone off but theres lots honest. bye tripleshine

As for blending modes it's very easy and basic. On your layers palette you will have your layers with their respective thumbnilas etc. Well above all that there is a dropdown. It will have the name "Normal" already selected. Simply change that dropdown to overlay, or multiply, or even screen and you will notice your graphitti image or text will mold to your wall image underneath. Multiply usually works the best I find but depending on your wall image it might not be the best. Simply play around until you get the desired effect.

Hope this helps!
