gpresult shows user getting policy but it is not applied

Like the subject says, I run gpresult with the user logged in and it shows the policy I created listed last under the different categories applicable However none of the settings are applied. GPResult is a liar. It says it is getting the policy from our lone DC that is across our WAN. We have like 4 other DCs on our LAN but somehow it always chooses the WAN DC. Could the problem be with user authenticating across the WAN?
