Can anyone tell me how to hide drives in my computer, windows explorer and myrecent documents etc through GP policy at leasst. I am able to hide drives in mycomputer through group policy , but the same drives are visible in windows explorer. But as per white papers from microsoft once you hide the drives it'll not be visible in windows explorer too!!! But in my case it's not happening like that. Can any tell me how to overcome this problem also pls. let me know how to hide my documents and my recent documents folders through group policy

Are you setting the 'hide' drives as well as teh prevent access to drives policy?

If you look under:

User Configuration - Administrative Templates - Start Menu and taskbar / Desktop, you will find pleanty of options for hiding special folders.

I am only hiding the drives. I have done through GPO and cheked in the client machine. It's hiding only from Mycomputer not from windows explorer. Then i tried to hide the drives through registry, it again hides the specified drive only from my computer not from windows explorer.

I already gone this KB article.

I tried in startment GPO options in administrative templates, but there is no option to hide mydocuments etc. My objective is when my users opened for eg, excel file and if they try to save as system should display c:\, mydocuments , recentdocuments folders etc. I want to force my users to store all their data in network.

Kindly help me to achieve this

Rather than hide the My Documents folder why not use folder redirection to point it to a network share, this will give you a central location and good application compatibility as most apps now try to save to My Docs by default.

Thanks a lot, Your solution is the ultimate option i am looking for. But can u help me in folder redirection and i followed ur link also. But i am facing problem applying this feature to suit my requirement

I have 3 group of peoples and each group have their respective share folder in server. In each group gpo, i am redirecting their my documents and desktop to their respective share folder. my problem is after redirecting, in one particular group if try to save some file in their local my documents it's redirecting to their respecting network share, but in other group of people, the documents is visible both in their my documents as well as in their respective share folder. Third problem is i am redirecting both their mydocuments & desktop to their share folder, after doing this, files in their share folder is visible in desktop as well as in mydocuments of their local pc. If i store files in their local pc's mydocuments it's visible in desktop too...

I am bit confused.... Can u help me how to properly put redirection in place..
