We have just implemented WSUS server and I have pointed my users via GPO to the server. However, it does not seem that the GPO is working..when logged in to the WSUS admin console no PC is showing up as registered....
First off, you wouldn't apply a WSUS policy to users...but computers. Have you linked the policy to the OU in which contains the computer accounts you want to apply the policy?
Also, being that it is a computer policy it may not apply until the computer reboots.
After you're sure you have the policy directed towards computers, on the local machine that's supposed to receive the policy...from a command prompt, run GPUPDATE /FORCE. Then, run GPRESULT from the command line and inspect the output to make sure the policy is being applied in the computer settings.
Also, you may need to manually install BITS and WinHTTP 5.1. You can find this download here:
58Sniper has a good point. If you're sure everything is as stated above, also run wuauclt /detectnow. This will prompt the local machine to "check in" with the WSUS server. However, it still may take some time to get a status in the WSUS console. By default, a computer checks in with WSUS every 22 hours with a (30 minute?) randomizer. However, this can also be changed within your WSUS policy to a shorter or longer period of time.
