How would you edit the GP to make the history show "0" days? On a multi user PC, I don't want people to see the drop down items in IE. I found "Diable auto complete", but can't find any option for that. Thanks in advance!
Can yo do anything with this Value in the following Key "Save_Session_History_On_Exit"="no"?
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Or this one?
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedUrls
This setting specifies the number of days that Internet Explorer keeps track of the pages viewed in the History List. The delete Browsing History option can be accessed using Tools, Internet Options and General tab. It is also available as Delete History directly under tools, Internet options, Delete Browsing History in Internet Explorer 7.
If you enable this policy setting, a user cannot set the number of days that Internet Explorer keeps track of the pages viewed in the History List. You must specify the number of days that Internet Explorer keeps track of the pages viewed in the History List. Users will not be able to delete browsing history.
If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, a user can set the number of days that Internet Explorer keeps track of the pages viewed in the History List and has the freedom to Delete Browsing History.
Linney,
Thanks very much. Is there a way I can push "0 Days" of history down on several computers thru GPO? It would be difficult to use the registry, since I want to do this on 100+ computers.
Sorry. In your response:
"GPO.Location: Computer Configuration\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\ "Disable Configuring History"."
Did you mean that it I enable this, it would change the number of days to "0"?
Above you stated:
"If you enable this policy setting, a user cannot set the number of days that Internet Explorer keeps track of the pages viewed in the History List. You must specify the number of days that Internet Explorer keeps track of the pages viewed in the History List. Users will not be able to delete browsing history."
I found this in GPO, but how do you make it "0" days in the GPO?
Basically when you Enable the Policy (via right-clicking on the words "Disable Configuring History") you just have to type "0" in the box, Apply and OK etc., reboot, or use GPupdate /force from a Command Prompt for the policy to be implemented. Check the IE setting to see that "0" (is dimmed) and appears in Browsing History/ Settings for number of days to keep pages in history.
The box I mention has scrolling arrows for going up and down 1 - 999, but you can also highlight the box and type "0" into it, then the arrows go up and down 0 - 999, I just threw that in to confuse everybody, me too.
Thanks again. Worked great! What abut disabling/removing the address bar in the registry or in IE itself? I'd like to do this for another computer, but not using GPO.
