Okay, here's the deal and don't pick on me because I'm brand new to the whole SBS thing. I have an SBS 2003 server running WSUS 3.0. Clients are communicating and downloading updates fine, but the settings in the client registries are not what I set in the group policy editor.

The clients just sit there waiting for someone to manually click on the gold update taskbar icon to install updates and don't automatically install at 4:00 a.m. as they should (yes I changed the time as a test to see if the new settings were being pushed down).

How do I tell the server to force/push the new registry settings down to the clients? It's been about 15 hours since I made the change.

Can you translate that for me into steps or send me a link. Remember - not a pro here.

Any help here appreciated. Look at the above output file to tell me what's wrong.

Can you screenshot the actual settings that you put on the GPO? Also show which groups it is being applied to?

It looks like it's being denied because there is no content in it... And we're looking at the User section, and WSUS usually applies to the Computer. Seeing what the settings are should give us a clue.

Dave,

I'm sorry, but you're over my head there in terms of what you're asking for. I suppose I shouldn't be working on this!!!

That happenend to me a LOT when I first started working with SBS in 2005. You've got Dave and Pat working with you, among the best...and most patient...this forum has to offer.

My only advice for you is to keep doing what you're doing - don't be afraid to mention when you would like more clarification. Best of luck (that means I don't know the answer either [smile].

Ok - could I have a blow by blow or reference to look at in terms of where I should be setting the group policy?

I hate to admit it, but Pat helped me to understand how to view the cause of the problem with the GP and then I fiddled with it until the reason for denial was fixed.

The reason I said I hate to admit it - Pat was mean to me in another question. Boo hoo. But thanks Pat old boy, I'm not mad at you any more.

You should not declare Pat was "mean" to you, especially without posting an example...he is an accomplished MVP, you can't blame him for being a little impatient at times with n00bs.

While I don't have the pleasure of personally knowing Pat, I have been a fan of his work for some time and am grateful for his contributions here. I have never known him to be anything but helpful.

There is another forum that I believe he tried to join and help others, but was dissed by one of the owners in this thread. He (if it really was him) never went back after that post in 2005, can you blame him?

Can't say I do...[smile] Pat, if you are reading this I would like to know if that really was you. I am no longer a paid member there, I get better and faster support here. I would rather contribute $$$ here at my discretion than get hammered for payment in Euros!

That was my sense of humor. He suggested I was trying to mooch a star and I could get kicked off the forum for that. But again, that was my sense of humor. I'd better behave myself and act my age.

Pat didn't make me cry or anything and he pointed me to the solution, so all is just great now!!!! A simple statement helped me to find the right road to go down and then I thrashed about until I figured it out. Hurray for me.
