We originally purchased GP Dynamics with Pervasive SQL -- have now been informed that GP will no longer support Pervasive, and must now switch to MS SQL.

Network is Netware 5.1 -- can GP with MS SQL run OK on this network software -- any changes needed? Thanks!

Rudy;
Other than having to spend money you did'nt plan on, you should be okay with this configuration. The GP client only needs an ODBC connection to the SQL server hosting the database.

Do you have any SQL server expertise in house or does your GP partner? Depending on how critical your system is, you may want to set up a test server before cutting over live.

Also, they are only charging a minimal amount for the switch if you go to the MSDE version. I believe they are charging $1500 for the migration tool and all your existing modules on MSDE.

Main limitations with MSDE as opposed to SQL standard are:
1. No management tools (Enterprise Mgr, Query Analyzer) but can use mgmt tools from another version of MS SQL if you have it.

2. Each database is limited to a size of 2GB.

3. I believe there is a maximum of 10 users.

Also, keep in mind that the support is scheduled to end December 2004 so you have some time. I have seen them extend the support past the first announced date but not usre that will happen with Microsoft.
