I just got back from site a customers ASA and it was totally dead. Nothing on the LAN and nothing from the console.

Power light on, Status light Amber!

So, it got replaced as its out of warranty now.

So, I had a peek inside and noticed a it had a stick 256MB DDR Ram. I thought 'I wonder.....'

I changed it out for a stick I had knocking about....

And low and behold, it sprung to life!!! Hurrah!

Thank you for your suggestion!

I recently stumbled upon an ASA5505 v05 that was experiencing identical issues and this thread was the only to mention a fix other than 'return the device for replacement'.

Issue:
Power light solid green and status light solid amber.

Tests performed:
1. Boot without RAM = no change
2. Boot without Flash = no change

Resolution:
Replaced RAM with new stick (PNY 184P D400 MD1024SD1-400) and device sprung to life! (This also upgraded the device from 256MB default RAM to 1GB for use with v8.3/v8.4 software!)

It should be noted that no apparent "POST" resulted in the amber status light prior to the RAM replacement. Upon plugging in the device's 48VDC connector the power light and amber light instantly lit up green and amber respectively.

feel free to reward with stars ;-)
