I wonder if someone can share an opinion on this...

I have a page of links on my site

Now this page is being indexed by Google. That's for certain.

However I am helping a friend out with a site and I link to that site on my links page.

If I go to Google and type "link: as a query my links page does not show up. Whereas links placed on other friend's sites do show up.

Any ideas? It's not that important, but it kind of goes against how I thought the link query worked.

the link: search has been "broken" for quite some time now and currently returns some strange results (although it's never actually worked as expected)

try a @domainname search see what that turns up.

Thats what I thought.
I checked it today and one of the pages that used to show up no longer does. It too was a "traditional" links page.

I can understand why this happens, though it seems a little unfair. Perhaps the threshold on the number of links is a little low? There aren't that many on my page, it's hardly a link farm!
How else am I to provide a resource to sites that may be useful to my contemporaries?
It's not that important in this case but I can see how a site that contains a list of useful resources may get penalised under the same rule (if there is a rule in place).

2 results come up for me.
The issue is that many forums and so called "experts" shout loudly and voraciously about "this is the way it is at Google" and far too many people believe this BS and then the myth continues.
In similar fashion the "great H1 debate" continues. Thats pretty much crap as well. Some pages will benefit, many won't.

If the links page counts in Google or not, what does it matter? It's there for your visitors, not as a service to other webmasters. Only the PR chasers who refuse to see the wood for the trees and think that PR is the be all and end all will even notice.

Thats very true Chris.

It was just a curiosity of mine as to why it was happening even though the site get crawled properly.

To be fair, there is nothing of much interest on my site anyway :)
