Hey Guys,
Quick question. I launched a new site ( about 6 weeks ago. It ranks very well (in such a short amount of time) for the words/phrases we are targeting in MSN/YAHOO/GOOGLE. I've noticed that Googlebot/2.1 is visiting the index page 1-2 times a day (since submitting to Google Sitemaps). However, with the except of only a couple of visits, the Googlebot hits the index page and then does not crawl the rest of the site. Is this normal behaviour or should I be concerned? Thanks in advance for any help.

Only Google has this delay period before pages can rank properly.

I have never observed sitemap behaviour so this is simply with using directories etc.
The index page visits only are part of the link analysis for new sites. It seems that each external link initially will cause a visit to the "home" page every few days until something will trigger a "deep" crawl and a few pages will be grabbed over a few hours, it seems as if this is some kind of speed benchmarking before the site gets a lot of pages grabbed over a couple of days. I have seen a similar pattern of spidering over several new sites, but of course you can never tell what will happen on any other site.

And what did you wrote in that sitemap ? What is your estimation for content refreshing interval and how often it changes in reality ? If Googlebot acts like this, maybe one day its conclusion will be that you try to abuse.

( Do not expect answers from me. Not tried Google sitemap yet. Just planed and read about other's experiences. )

Feherke.
