Google Search Result Redirect

Help me please :( I am at an absolute loss, for some reason, whenever I search using google, and I click the link of a result, I find myself being redirected to a random site using a "jump" tag in the tab listing. If you backtrack to the google search page where the results were listed and click the link again, once again you are redirected. On the third try, it will work the way it's supposed to and direct you to the desired page. However, this is only with the main google search feature, I never receive a redirect with an image search. Help me please!

I forgot to mention, I've scanned using Norton multiple times and it comes up that my PC is error free and clean as a whistle. Clearly, this is not the case though.

IMPORTANT! Move Hijack this from the Temp, desktop or from the zip folder
to it's own folder!


Make a new folder in C:\ and call it Hijack this, and Save hijack this to
this folder so that it runs properly and can make back ups. Click scan,
then save the log and post it here so we can take a look at it for you.



you don't appear to have a firewall, even if you have a router you still need
a software frewall, downlaod the one from the link below!

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:




Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, Hijack This will launch. Close Hijack This, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new Hijack This log.

* Go to Control Panel. - If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select
the Network and Internet Connections category. If you are in Classic View,
go to the next step .

Download AVG Anti-Spyware



* Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
* Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
* On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
* Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
* Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
* Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Delete"
* Under "Reports"
* Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
* Un-Select "Only if threats were found"


Close AVG Anti-Spyware. Anti-spyware, Do NOT run a scan yet. We will do that later in safe mode.






* Click here to download ATF Cleaner by Atribune and save it to your desktop.



* Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
* Under Main choose: Select All
* Click the Empty Selected button.
o If you use Firefox:
+ Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
+ Click the Empty Selected button.
+ NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
o If you use Opera:
+ Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
+ Click the Empty Selected button.
+ NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
* Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.


* Click here for info on how to boot to safe mode if you don't already know
how.




* Now copy these instructions to notepad and save them to your desktop. You
will need them to refer to in safe mode.


* Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in
safe mode:

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Standard File Kill.
In the Full Path of File to Delete box, copy and paste each of the following
lines one at a time then click on the button that has the red circle with the
X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confirmation to
delete the file. Click Yes. Continue with that same procedure until you have
copied and pasted all of these in the Paste Full Path of File to Delete box.



Note: It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not
exist. If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you
don't miss any.




Run AVG Anti-Spyware!

# IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG is scanning as it may interfere with the scanning process:
# Launch AVG Anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
# Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
# AVG will now begin the scanning process. Be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
# If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
# Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
# Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
# Close AVG and reboot your system back into Normal Mode.


Note: this is a stand alone, it doesn't install to start/programmes.

Download Mwav,



double click on it and it will extract to C:\kaspersky. Click
on the kaspersky folder and click on Kavupd, a black dos window will open
and it will update the programme for you, be patient it will take 5-10
minutes to download the new definitions. Once it's updated, click on mwavscan
to launch the programme.

Use the defaults of:

Memory
startup folders
Registry
system folders
services

Choose drive , all drives and, click scan all files
and then click scan/clean. After it finishes scanning and cleaning post
the log here with a new hijack this log.

Note: this is a very thorough scanner, it might take anything up to an hour
or more, depending on how many drives you have and how badly infected your
pc is.



Highlight the portion of the scan that lists infected items and hold
CTRL + C to Copy then paste it here. The whole log with be extremely
big so there is no way to copy the whole thing. I just need the
infected items list.



Post a new hijack this, the wareout the Mwav scan log and the AVg antispware log!

I have not done anything with this problem since April but am going to get it fixed now. Along with the google redirect problem, I can not get adaware to update, it does run though. The latest problem is that I can not get onto any gc.ca web sites such as No web sites with the gc.ca ending will work.

I installed the Comodo firewall. I ran the fixwareout but nothing happened, except that it wants to reboot so I let it, when it came back up..... nothing, so I tried again, same thing nothing. Also Hijackthis did not launch upon reboot. I can manually get it to launch, but according to the instructions it should have launched and I was to shut it down, that didn't happen.
So no log from fixaware.
ipcongig did not work either. I keep getting
" 'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Incidently the same thing has happened with other dos commands like 'ping'. They don't work.

I ran AVG for about 2 hours and it removed a lot, when I went to the log tab nothing was there?!?!?

Also download this and use it to repair winsock as I have a feeling its been damaged.

Go to start, run, then type msconfig and type out all checked items on here.

Ok I got rid of the O17.

I am leary of running this Win Sock Xp fix.

Be aware of side effects: netsh winsock reset catalog This command resets the Winsock catalog to the default configuration. This can be useful if a malformed LSP is installed that results in loss of network connectivity. While use of this command can restore network connectivity, it should be used with care because any previously-installed LSPs will need to be re-installed. This means Antivirus software, firewalls, VPN clients etc

It messed up my VPN connection and wireless connection. I am all hosed up now. I am repenting using this.

I was helping a friend with a connectivity issue. I found this file and ran it on my good computer (no network problems) and it stopped Outlook Express from accessing my POP3 accounts. After using System Restore everything back to normal. Running Windows XP Svc Pk 2 and Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2180. Just a warning.


Are you sure I should run this?

system cd is your windows xp cd. sfc is system file checker.

Ive used winsock fix many of times and ive never had a problem with it. Your the first person ive ever seen that had one.

Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.



You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for
reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the
Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following
:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the
    Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and
double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter"
to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the
registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to
remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the
infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be
prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing
Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process;
if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process;
please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at
C:\rapport.txt

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer
will remove your Desktop background.






Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:




Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure
"Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the
prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your
system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, Hijack This will
launch. Close Hijack This, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt,
along with a new Hijack This log.

UnZip the startdreck.zip file first. DoubleClick: 'StartDreck.exe'
First click on the config button.
Now click the Unmark all button
Put a check by these boxes only:

* In the Registry column select "Run keys"
*In the Files column select "Autostart folders"

Hit > OK.

Now click the Save button to save that log. Go to the StartDreck folder and
find the Startdreck.log file.

Copy and Paste the contents of that log back here and await further
instructions.

I am getting nowhere FAST !

I downloaded Smifraudfix and tried running it. All I get is a very quick DOS window flash.

Downloaded fixwareout and ran it. It asked me to reboot and I did when it came back up, a window poped up saying "beginning fix click ok to start" So I did and it just continued to reboot.
There were no prompts and hijack this did not launch.

Next I went into cmd in DOS and typed in ipconfig /flushdns and again as with most DOS prompts it said ipconfig is not recognized. Saame thing happens with "Ping". They have worked in the past but not since I have got this problem.

Next I downloaded startdreck and tried to run it.
Got the message "This application failed to srat because VB40032.dll was not found. re-installing the appliaction may fix this problem"


SO................

Some other things to note.

System restore does not work and hasn't for even longer than this problem has occurred.
Many DOS prompts are not recognized.
I seem to loose conectivity A LOT.
Adaware will not update, gets to 5% and says an error has occured.
Not to mention why I started this thread was to fix the google redirect !

you might be better reformatting if you have a restore disk or the Xp dosc as you'll get your computer back?
